Yesterday at the MECMA: Violin Concerto with Sergei Dogadin

In addition to the daily collection of phenomenal masterclasses and lessons taking part at the MECMA, yesterday's edition of the academy welcomed internationally-acclaimed violinist, Sergei Dogadin, who performed live in concert with the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Felix Korobov.

As part of the EUFSC and SAMIT’s efforts to promote high quality musical education, this year’s edition of InClassica is also incorporating the inaugural edition of the Middle East Classical Music Academy (MECMA), taking place from the 4th to the 23rd of September. This educational initiative features three weeks of lectures, discussions and masterclasses in the schools of piano, wind, and strings, led by a roster of international professors and music pedagogues consisting of some of the most illustrious names active today. In addition, the MECMA is also presenting a series of daytime concerts featuring soloists, orchestras, and prodigies from all around the world, with select Academy students being offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of joining these artists in live performance on stage.

Quotes from Professors:

- “It is always nice to see the eyes of students who are hungry for knowledge, it gives me great inspiration! All students are different, according to age and level of training, and here I find weaknesses in everyone and we work on them. I am very grateful for the organization of MECMA, everything is organised at the highest level. We have a very comfortable room with good acoustics, a piano, an accompanist, and I can, without being distracted by anything, focus on the lesson, fully devote my time to students, and work with everyone individually, which is what the Academy was designed for” - Boris Kuschnir

- “Learning is an endless path of development in art, and I love teaching very much and am always happy to share my experience with young musicians. I had students of different ages and levels. We did not have a lot of time, but since I deal with everyone individually, this has a great effect. All the children are very talented, musical, eager for knowledge. I see how they are all very keenly interested in music, react quickly and grasp everything on the fly” - Pavel Gililov

Daytime concert: Violin Concerto

Sergei Dogadin (violin)
- “Today we can say there was a premiere in Dubai of a new version of Alexey Shor’s ‘Verdiana’ and I think this work will have a bright life. A little less than a year ago, I was offered to perform ‘Verdiana’ in a version for a trio. After the premiere with the trio, I suggested that Alexey make a separate violin concerto, he responded vividly to this offer and sent me the sheet music a few days later. It seems to me that it turned out very well. We have finalized some things, constantly discussed, looked for ways to diversify the music based on the characteristics of the violin. It turned out to be a good, bright option.”

Felix Korobov
- “It is probably difficult for an ordinary person to understand that we, musicians, start our professional life early. And this does not just mean studying at school from the age of 5-6, but we immediately begin to engage in the profession as well. It is important for young musicians to not only study with wonderful teachers, but also, first of all, to go on stage. To a greater extent, we acquire our experience, our skills on the stage. To play concerts, it is impossible to study only at home or at school in a room. And this Academy is a completely unique opportunity for young performers to join the orchestra. You can't imagine what it is like for a child or a teenager to be in the same programme with Haik Kazazyan, for instance - this is an event for a lifetime. This is a rare opportunity, orchestras are usually busy, they cannot devote themselves to working with young musicians. And here, thanks to the brilliant idea of the Foundation, they receive masterclasses with leading teachers, participation in a concert and they will certainly leave here with incredible impressions and a desire to continue doing their business.”

Academy students selected to participate in the concert:

Nurdana Yegeshova (violin)
Leyth Elmani (violin)

Students’ Programme:

W.A. Mozart - Violin Concerto No. 5, 1st movement
M. Bruch - Violin Concerto No. 1
